On December 22nd, the winter solstice day of the Guimao year(2023), which coincided with the day of the death of Mencius, all members of the Mencius Research Institute gathered at the pilgrimage Square in Mengyuan to hold the a ceremonyto commemorate Mencius and the merits of him. Dressed in formal attirewithsolemn expressions,all the staff stood in front of the statue of Mencius, and bowed three times to the statue of Mencius.

According to the "Genealogy of Mencius", Mencius passed away in 289 BC at the age of 84, and the day he died was the Winter Solstice Day. The villagers in Mencius' hometown were very saddened, so they abolished the ceremony to celebrate the Winter Solstice, and held vegetarian meals and solemnly worshipped Mencius, forming a unique "Winter Solstice Abolition Ceremony" custom that has continued to this day in Mencius' hometown. Since its establishment, the Mencius Research Institute has held annual ceremonies to worship Mencius, to express respect and nostalgia for Mencius. This is of great significance for inheriting and promoting Mencius'thoughts.
