The Confucius Templein Harbinwas built in 1926 and completed in 1929. In 1985, the government of Heilongjiang Province decided to set up the Heilongjiang Ethnic Museum with the Confucius Templeas its premise, and has invested huge sums of fundto carefully repair and restore the temple to its present splendor.

The layoutofHarbin Confucius Temple, with a total of three yards, was designedand built according to the specifications of the BigCeremony of Confucian sacrifice. The Dacheng Hall, which has a width of 11 rooms, is a rare structure in Confucius temples around the country.

The Dacheng Hall featuresChina's most noble "yellow glazed tiles", and the roof style is the highest grade known as "hip roof with double eaves ". The Dacheng Gate and the Chongsheng Temple also feature yellow glazed tiles and hipped roofs,plusthe "Golden dragon and Seal" paintingpatterns. The specifications of the side hallsare lower and smaller, in contrastto themagnificenceand majestyof the main building, showing the latteris a venuefor the Big Ceremony of Confucian sacrifice.

The ConfuciusTemple in Harbin city was officially opened to the public in 1988 as the ethnic Museum of Heilongjiang Province. The museum is the first specialized provincial museum built in Chinato collect, study and display the history and culture of the 10 ethnic minorities in Heilongjiang Province. There is a permanent display of ethnic cultural relics. At the same time, since the establishment of the museum, a series of business activities and foreign academic exchanges onConfucius and Confucian culturehave been carried out

Now the temple has become a major landmark in cultural landscape in Harbin, and was approved as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 1996.
