The Confucius Temple in Fenzhou, Shanxi province was built in 966, rebuilt in the Jin Dynasty, and reached its peak after repairs since the Yuan Dynasty. In Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt on the basis of the former Qing Cheng Palace. In terms of scale, the rebuilt FenzhouConfucius Temple in the Qing Dynasty, cover an area of more than 35,000 square meters, including thesacrificial places and study halls, larger than the Confucius Temple, inQufu,Shandong Province (32,700 square meters).

In the Qing Dynasty, there were three grand and magnificent archways along the Fenzhou PrefectureConfucius Temple, with the archwayintegrated intothe Lingxing Gatein the middle, two lowerand narrowerarchways on both sides, and two golden inscribed dismountingstone steleson the roadside, highlighting the sanctity and majesty of thisforbidden place. There are three white marble bridge fences outside the Lingxing Gate archway, which in the early years was the special road for local officialsto greet the imperial edicts, and the ancient street in the south of the bridge is thus named "Taihe Bridge".

However, after the "July 7 Incidentof 1937"during the Japanese invasion, the Confucius Templein Fen Zhou Prefecture and County was brutally destroyed, and the precious cultural relics were looted by the Japanese invaders.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the ConfuciusTemple in Fenzhou Prefecture,built inofQing Dynasty,was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Shanxi Province. Kong Xiangsheng, a Confucius’ descendant and chairman of Fenyang Anxing Coal Industry Co., LTD., invested in rebuilding the Fenzhou Confucius Temple. In 2008, the Temple reconstruction project began in Wenhu Scenic area and was completed in 2009.
