After Confucius returned to Lu state, the monarch didn't put him in important positions, and Confucius also did not expect to be an official. He sat on the Xing altar with his disciples every day, playing the qin, collating, editing and teaching ancient documents, such as The Book of History, The Book of Rites, The Book of Songs, The Book of Music and The book of changes. Therefore, the Xing altar has become the sacred place for teaching to later generations since then.
