When Confucius was reading the two divination symbols of Sun (loss） and Yi (gain) in The Book of Changes, he signed and said, "The modest will gain and the complacent will lose." Zixia asked, "Can't learning be helpful to gain?" Confucius said, "I didn't mean that one cannot improve himself. The more knowledge one have, the more modest one will be. He would discover more disadvantages of himself and could receive other people's advice. In this way, he could keep improving himself."
