When Confucius and Yan Hui ascended Mount Tai, Confucius saw a white horse tied outside the gate of Suzhou, the capital of Wu state. He asked Yan Hui, "Can you see the gate of Wu state?" Yan Hui replied, "Yes, sir." Confucius then asked, "Can you see what's outside the gate?" "It's like a white silk," Yan Hui replied. But Confucius said, "No, it's not. It's a white horse." Confucius stood high and saw far, so he could see the white horse. Later generations built a memorial archway here to commemorate Confucius.
