On January 13, Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies(Secretariat of China Confucius Foundation) held the sixth international frontier academic lecture. Chae Young Kim, a scholar attendingthe "Qilu Visiting Research Program" and professor of Sogang University in South Korea, was invited to give an academic presentation.

Chae Young Kim, under the title "Carl Gustav Jung on I Chingand its Implications Towards Spiritual Cultural Discourse", systematically reviewed Jung's academic journey from his initial contact with the I Chingtranslation in the early 20th century to his later stage when he systematically constructed its psychological value. He pointed out that in Jung's era, western religious life was plunged into a widespread predicament due to the expansion of rationalism. Traditional religious concepts struggled to address the spiritual confusion of modern people, while positivism regarded irrationality as a cognitive blind spot. In this context, Jung acutely realized that the holistic thinking, symbolic wisdom, and the principle of "synchronicity" contained in the classic Chinese text "I Ching" could provide crucialinsights to break through the shackles of western rationalism.

"Jung regarded the I Chingas the historical and empirical foundation which supported his psychological research," Chae Young Kim stated. Through interpreting the I Ching, Jung discovered a perspective of holistic mind that transcends western dualistic thinking, which centers on telepathyand meaning connection, thereby reconstructing humanity's devout attitude toward the religious nature of the mind. This interpretation injects the oriental wisdom into Jungian analytical psychology, builds a bridge connecting the Eastern and Western minds, urges the Western academic circles to re-examine the value of irrational thinking, and provides deep cultural resources for the contemporary people to deal with modernity anxiety.
