“Digital DunHuang Open Material Pool” was officially launched recently. The pool, established by the Dunhuang Academy and other institutes, is the world’s first blockchain-based digital open and sharing platform for cultural heritage.

　　Through the platform, scholars, cultural enthusiasts, and art creators around the world could gain access to more than 6,500 high-definition digital resource files from grotto sites including the Mogao Grottoes and literature at the Dunhuang Library Cave. According to reports, with blockchain technology, the originality proof of the collected material and the related authorization, payment, and download information will be stored on the chain in real time, and the authorized use of each material will be verifiable. All inpiduals and companies with creativity can download the material for re-creation. If their work is re-uploaded into the pool, it can be shared and used by a wider audience after intelligent content security auditing and professional validation by the Dunhuang Academy.

　　Through introducing quality programs such as Digital Sponsor Campaign, Dunhuang Poetry Scarves, and Dunhuang Roam mini app , and launching the “Digital Library Cave” with new technology, the Dunhuang Academy, in conjunction with relevant institutes, has long been striving to make archaeology and museology fully digitized across the whole industrial chain to advance the inheritance and innovation of excellent traditional culture with digital technology.
