Zhucheng Dinosaur Culture Research Center has newly discovered relatively complete water-ripple-shaped fossils and large sauropod dinosaur footprint fossils in the main fossil area in Zhucheng City of Shandong Province. Initial study shows that these discoveries belong to geological strata of the Early Cretaceous period.

Public information shows that Zhucheng of Shandong Province is located in the faulted area in the southern part of the Jiaolai Basin. It was formed in the Mesozoic Cretaceous period, with complex structural deformation and complete geological formations. The long-term continuous deposition in the basin area creates conditions for the formation of dinosaur fossils. Since the 1960s, Zhucheng has successively discovered more than 30 dinosaur fossil burial sites, including Kugou, Kuigun, Yuhuang, Zangjiazhuang and Houjiatun, covering an area of nearly 1,000 square kilometers. Zhucheng was named "City of Dinosaurs in China" because of its rich dinosaur fossil resources.

According to Chen Shuqing, Chief of Science Popularization Section of the Zhucheng Dinosaur Culture Research Center, new dinosaur fossil sites were found through this year's survey, proving that the Zhucheng area was a fertile land with lush vegetation and lakes in the Mesozoic period, which is very suitable for dinosaurs to survive. It can be confirmed that there are sauropod dinosaur footprint fossils and theropod dinosaur footprint fossils in the newly discovered area, which provides more sufficient evidence for the in-depth study of the ancient geology and environment of Zhucheng, as well as the migration and distribution of these dinosaurs.
