The International Council of Museums recently announced that the theme for the 2023 “International Museum Day” on May 18 is “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing.”

　　Museums are key contributors to the wellbeing and to the sustainable development of our communities. As trusted institutions and important components in our shared social structure, they are in a unique place to create a cascading effect to foster positive change.

　　The 2023 “International Museum Day” will focus on three goals. The first is “global health and wellbeing,” which aims to ensure healthy lifestyles and promote well-being for people of all ages, in particular concerning mental health and social isolation; the second is “climate action,” which aims to take urgent action to address climate change and its impacts, adopting low-carbon practices in the northern hemisphere and green gas emission reduction strategies in the southern hemisphere; the third is “life on land,” which aims to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, amplifying the voices of local leadership and raising awareness on the loss of biopersity.
